A project designed by thirteen famous artists of Lithuania – an exceptional art gallery in staircases of residential buildings – was opened up for residents and guests of Vilnius. It is the first gallery of this kind and scale representing a variety of forms of art which was established in Užupio krantinių settlement. Art lovers could visit it accompanied by a team of guides from Gatvės gyvos (Living Streets).
It took approximately one year in preparation to carry through the project. During this time sculptors, painters, ceramic, graphic artists and photographers were actively creating unique works of art set to fill in unconventional space to symbolise certain signature features of Užupis district in the capital city.
Užupio krantinių gallery in staircases were decorated by works of art of Eglė Ridikaitė, Kristina Norvilaitė, Vaida Keleras, Kunigunda Dineikaitė, Tomas Martišauskis, Nerijus Baublys, Mingailė Mikelėnaitė, Monika Gedrimaitė, Justina Kildišytė, Vita and Gediminas Kalinauskai, and Tadas Šimkus, whereas the centrepiece of the settlement – its central square – now hosts a fountain by smith Raimondas Vaitkūnas.Close
